James Otis Kelly, pioneer resident of Sweetwater, Okla., and well known in Wheeler county, died at Hobart, Okla., on July 8 at the age of 95 years, 10 months and 8 days.

The father of Mrs. Ophelia Johnson of Mobeetie, and Mrs. Nealie Miller of Sweetwater, Mr. Kelly spent most of his life in this section. He and his wife moved to the Panhandle in 1891 and to Sweetwater in 1893. His last days were spent at Hobart.

Mr. Kelly was married to Margaret Egger at Johnson Station on November 9, 1873. There were 11 children, six of whom and their mother preceded Mr. Kelly in death.

The vie surviving children are: Mrs. Ophelia Johnson of Mobeetie, Mrs. Nealie Miller of Sweetwater, Jim Tom Kelly of Nara Visa, N.M., George Kelly of Tucumcari and Mrs. Minnie Kelly Ing of Duncan, Okla. All children were present for the funeral.

Mr. Kelly united with the Baptist church in his early youth.

He leaves a host of friends to mourn his death.

Mrs. Margaret M. Kelly, resident of this section of the country since 1891, who has been living with her daughter, Mrs. Ophelia Johnson of Mobeetie, passed away Friday. Mrs. Kelly was born March 1, 1858 at Fairfield, Texas and was married to James Otis Kelly at Johnson Station November 9, 1873. Five children and the husband survive. The surviving children are Jim Tom Kelly, Nara Visa, N.M.; Geo. Kelly, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Ophelia Johnson, Mobeetie; Mrs. Nealie Miller, Sweetwater, Okla.; and Mrs. Minnie Ing, Comanche, Okla. Her husband, James Otis Kelly lives at Hobart, Okla. There are 23 grand children and 32 great-grand children.

Mrs. Kelley [sic] joined the Baptist church in her early forties and at the time of her departure was a member of the Baptist Church of Mobeetie.

She and her husband settled in the Panhandle in 1891 and moved to near Sweetwater, Okla., in 1893. From there they moved to Rankin in 1916 and to Mobeetie where she lived until the time of her death. She had been ill for about 6 months.

She has seen the prairies develop into prosperous agricultural sections, and transportation from the ox drawn wagon to the air planes. She was a happy loving companion and friend to her family and to the many friends she knew and loved.

Funeral services were held at the Wheeler Baptist Church at 4 p.m. Saturday with Rev. A.C. Wood officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Higdon of the Mobeetie Baptist Church and Rev. Jno. English, pastor of the Wheeler Methodist Church.

Interment was in the Wheeler cemetery under the direction of the Hunt Funeral Home.
