R. C. Merryman, age 80, passed away Monday, March 20, 2006, at Abilene Regional Medical Center in Abilene. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at the Higginbotham Chapel in Cross Plains with Jim Senkel officiating, and Bob Pipes assisting; burial will follow in the Belle Plain Cemetery.

He was born on July 20, 1925, in Callahan County, Texas, to Bob and Carrie (Johnson) Merryman. R.C. married Wanda Warren in September 1949 in Albany, Texas. He worked in the oil fields and owned and operated Merryman Drilling until he retired. He then moved the location of his business to the local coffee shop, there R.C. and his friends spent many hours visiting and discussing world affairs and of course the price of oil. He will be missed by his friends as they gather to remember the good times they had with R.C.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda of Cross Plains; sons, David Merryman and wife, Debbie; Tom Merryman and wife, Jan; daughter, Ann Knott and husband, Mike all of Cross Plains; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and two sisters.
