Joe King, 62, died in the Veterans Hospital in Amarillo, Saturday, Dec. 14 following several months illness. Funeral services were conducted from the First Baptist Church, Wheeler, Monday, Dec. 16 with Rev. Frank J. Ross, pastor and Rev. M.B. Smith, of Pampa, officiating.
Mr. King had been a resident of Wheeler since his retirement from ranch work several years ago. He was born in Webber Falls, Okla., July 28, 1895. He was married to Miss Clara Hinkle in Gore, Okla., July 10, 1921 and came to the Washita community from Burkburnett nine years ago. He was a member of the Baptist Church and served with the Medical Corp during World War I.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Fowler Morgan, Oklahoma City; Mrs. Bettye Russell, Ft. Worth and Mrs. Peggy Bearden, Muskogee, Okla. One brother preceded him in death.
Serving as pall bearers were Roy Wheeler, Melvin Wheeler, Clarence Walser, Leland Caldwell, Harry Wofford and Gordon Whitener.
Interment was made in Wheeler Cemetery under the direction of Kirk Funeral Home.
