Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. for Chester Lee Lewis in the Wheeler Methodist Church with Rev. Carlton Thomson officiating with Rev. M.B. Smith of Pampa assisting. Interment was in the Wheeler Cemetery with Kirk Funeral Home in charge.

Pallbearers were: Max Wiley, Thurman Rives, Watson Burgess, Gordon Stiles, Harvey Wright, W.A. Goad Jr., Hiram Whitener and Spud Moore.

Honorary pallbearers were: George Hefley, A.B. Crump, R.H. Forrester, Dr. Glenn Walker, Jim Risner, Charley Bradshaw, Murry Sanders and W.E. Bowens.

Mr. Lewis, Wheeler County postmaster for 18 years and rural carrier for the past 8 years, died Saturday morning while on his mail route. He was 61 years old.

He was born Oct. 16, 1897 in McKinley and moved to Wheeler County in 1916. He was married June 25, 1932 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Imogene Muse, who survives him.

Mr. Lewis served for two years with the Navy during World War I and after his discharge served with the U.S. engineers. He was a member of the Methodist Church; past master of Wheeler Masonic Lodge; member of the Order of the Eastern Star; served on the board for the Order of the Rainbow for Girls; member of the American Legion; member of the Wheeler volunteer fire department; and held several civic offices in Wheeler.

Survivors include his wife, and daughter Amy Elizabeth, of the home address; one son, Jerry, of Fort Worth; two brothers, W.J. of Pampa, John of Wheeler; two sisters, Mrs. L.A. Stewart of Dallas, Mrs. Harmon Weeks of Phoenix, Mrs. F.B. Craig of Anchorage, Alaska; and two grandchildren.

WHEELER - Services for Mrs. Imogene Lewis, 64, who died Wednesday at Parkview Hospital, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Marvin Roark, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lewis was born and had lived all her life in Wheeler County. She was a former nurse in the original Wheeler Hospital and a 16-year employe of the post office in Wheeler. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are a son, Jerry, Azle; a daughter, Amy, New York City; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Lowrie, Wellington; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
