Funeral services were held at the Wheeler Church of Christ at 3 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon for L.C. McBee, popular Wheeler county resident for the past 40 years and former Constable of Precinct 1.

Mr. McBee, 68 years old, died of a heart attack at 7:30 o'clock Sunday evening, while he was feeding the chickens in his backyard.

B.M. Litton, minister of the Wheeler Church of Christ, was in charge of the rites, assisted by Rev. A.C. Wood, longtime friend of Mr. McBee. Interment was made in Wheeler Cemetery with Hunt Funeral Home in charge.

Levi C. McBee, Jr., was born December 12, 1878 at Braymer, Missouri. He attended William Jewell College in Missouri. He came to Oklahoma in 1897 and settled near the present city of Cordell, where he engaged in farming. He came to Texas in 1907 and setled [sic] near Kelton in which locality he was engaged in farming until about 1927 when he moved to Wheeler.

Mr. "Mac" served as Constable of precinct no. 1 in Wheeler County from 1931 to 1941. In his office he was faithful to his duties in his effort to enforce the law and promote a peaceable community.

On March 14, 1900, Mr. McBee was married to Miss Paralee Phillips at Cordell, Okla. To this union was born two daughters, Mrs. Frank Lourie of Bovina, Texas, and the late Mrs. Caroline Oglesby, who preceded him in death in February, 1921. Mrs. Oglesby left a baby daughter, Caroline, whom Mr. and Mrs. McBee took into their home and reared and educated here in Wheeler. She is now Mrs. Caroline Gaines of Port Ynema, Calif.

In addition to the above survivors, he leaves one sister, Mrs. J.F. Rathjen, of Wheeler; four grandchildren and one greatgrandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.

In early manhood, Mr. McBee was converted and became a member of the Methodist Church at McBee Chapel. He was a devoted husband and father and a friend of the common people. He enjoyed his life with his friends who will miss his genial fellowship.

Flower girls were: honorary: Bonnie Ray Tillie [sic] and Marilyn Carol Swink: active: Grace and Emma Fox, Bonnie Harman, Ruby Sullivan, Helen Lively and Inez Renegar.

Honorary pallbearers were Levi and Otis Reid, R.G. Russ, Floyd Pennington, Harry Wofford, E. Tillman, Joe Tilley and Mr. Brown.

Active pallbearers were: Owen Sullivan, Grady and Wayne Fox, Jess Swink, Harvey Lively and Leonard Rathjen.

Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Creswell and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Creswell, of Hammon, Okla.; Miss Fay Creswell of Elk City; Mrs. Inez Renegar and daughter, Patricia and Mr. and Mrs. Owen Sullivan, all of Oklahoma City; Mr. and Mrs. Grady Fox and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Lively, all of Amarillo; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Fox of Shamrock; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Zybach of Canadian, Mr. and Mrs. D.G. Sims of Mobeetie; Mrs. Lillie Rose, Mrs. Anna Billan and Mrs. Tom Creswell all of Elk City, Okla., and Arthur DeBord of Custer, Oklahoma.
