Graveside services for Henry C. Maxey, 83, of Lubbock will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Englewood Cemetery of Slaton.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. at Englunds Chapel in Slaton with the Rev. Paul Cunningham officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

He died Monday July 8, 2002.

He was born May 9, 1919, in Plainview and moved to Slaton in 1929. He attended schools in Slaton before going to a junior college in Coffeeville, Kan.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1939 to 1945, and was in Europe during World War II. He married Dorothy "Dot" Ziegler on Aug. 28, 1941, in Colorado Springs, Colo. He moved to Lubbock from Alabama in 1955 and established Maxey Construction Co., which he owned and operated until he retired in 1990. He served as an elder in Westminster Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Mariners Sunday School class.

Dot was born November 30, 1922 in Viola, Illinois to Henry and Catherine Ziegler. She and her family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1929. Dot graduated from Palmer Springs High School and Cooks School of Cosmetology in 1940. She married Henry Clay Maxey of Slaton in August of 1941. He preceded her death in July of 2002.

They moved to Slaton in 1945 and later to Lubbock, Texas for the past 60 years. Dot was a licensed LVN at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock. She worked on Private Duty and also for the late Dr. GL Marable for 18 years. Dot was a devoted member of Westminister Presbyterian Church and Mariners Sunday school class.

Dot was preceded in death by son, Mike Maxey of Longview, Texas.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2011 in Englunds Chapel with internment in Englewood Cemetery under the directions of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
