Melvin W. Meadows, 77, died Thursday, April 21, 1988 in Lubbock.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in First Baptist Church. Rev. Robert Helsley, pastor, and Bill Morrison, minister of Wheeler Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.
Mr. Meadows, born in Wise County, had been a farmer in Wheeler County for 42 years. He was married to Mary Rothwell. She died in 1959. He was then married to Grace Wilson. She died in 1971. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby Meadows of Lubbock and Buford Meadows of Wheeler; two daughters, Shirley Scott of Shamrock and Betty Skidmore of Cheyenne, Okla.; two stepsons, Johnny Wilson of Wheeler and Jimmy Wilson of Murphy, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Gloria Gable of Shamrock, Ruth Borden of Vernon and Judy Hoover of Grand Junction, Colo.; five brothers, Homer Meadows of Clayton, N.M.; Carrol and Earl Meadows of Childress and Cecil Meadows of Paradise; three sisters, Aunta Maye Parker and Monvelda Little, both of Amarillo and Florene Humphrey of Clarksville; eight grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; and a great grandchild.
The family requests memorials be to the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for Mary Gertrude (Rothwell) Meadows were held Wednesday, August 26th at 3:00 p.m in the Church of Christ in Wheeler with Minister E.M. Borden Jr. officiating, assisted by Bob Holford of Mobeetie.
Mrs. Mary Gertrude Meadows was born in Childress, Texas March 8, 1918 and passed away at Wheeler, August 24, 1959 at the age of 41 years, 5 months and 16 days.
Mary Gertrude Rothwell was married to Melvin Meadows in Childress on December 24, 1939. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mrs. Meadows and family came to Wheeler from Amarillo in 1949 and had made her home here since.
Survivors are the husband Melvin Meadows of Wheeler; and four children all of the home, Shirley Ann, Bobby Glenn, Gladys and Betty Darlene; her mother, Mrs. Doyle Rothwell of Childress; and one brother, J.D. Rothwell of Seymour. Her father preceded her in death.
Pall bearers were: Grady Dorn, Forest Jones, Lonnie Elkins, L.P. Landes, Glen Gaines and O. Nations.
Honorary bearers were Lem Gaines, Thomas Daughtry, Dick Crump and Geo. Weems.
Interment was in the Wheeler Cemetery under the direction of Kirk Funeral Home of Wheeler.
