Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning in the Methodist Church for C.J. Meek, longtime Wheeler resident and outstanding civic and community booster. Rev. Carlton Thomson, local pastor and Rev. O.A. McBrayer of Borger officiated.
Carey Judson (C.J.) Meek passed away March 9, 1959 at the age of 71 years 1 month and 24 days.
Interment was in the Wheeler Cemetery under the direction of Kirk Funeral Home.
Mr. Meek was married to Grace Roberson February 22, 1912 at Gainsville, [sic], Texas. He has been in Wheeler for 35 years in Abstract and Insurance business. Mr. Meek attended school at Forrestburg, Texas and Toby's Business College at Waco, Texas.
At the time of his passing he was a member of the Methodist Board of Stewards, Chamber of Commerce and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge. In 1956 he was president of the Wheeler Kiwanis Club.
He was also an outstanding scout leader.
Mr. Meek is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Meek of Wheeler, two sons, Joe Field Meek of Beaumont, Texas and Wendell Meek of Annandale, Virginia; four brothers, Edward Meek, Gageby, Texas; Roscoe Meek, Mobeetie, Texas; W.L. Meek of Childress, Texas; and Paul Meek of Monahan [sic], Texas.
One sister and one brother preceded him in death.
Serving as pall bearers were Jack Meek, J.P. Meek, Clyde Meek, Wayne Meek, Sidney Mayfield, Fred Farmer, Henry Flanagan and Clarence Dyson.
Honorary bearers were Methodist Men's Class and Kiwanis Club.
