Mrs. M.M. Meeks, 51, a sister of Mrs. A.B. Crump of this city, passed away at 2:25 Thursday morning, May 2, at the Canadian hospital after a brief illness from pneumonia. Mrs. Meeks had lived for the past 24 years in Canadian, where she was an active member of the Baptist church in all its departments, having joined that denomination at Lometa when a young woman.

Maude E. Stanley was born July 18, 1883, at Belleplain [sic], Texas, and died May 2, 1935, at Canadian, Texas, at the age of 51 years, 10 months and 16 days. She was married in 1901 to Dr. M.M. Meeks at Lometa, and to this union were born two sons, Richard and Stanley. Richard preceded his mother in death. Her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. J.E. Stanley, and a sister, Mrs. Imogene Ladd, passed on before her.

Mrs. Meeks is survived by the husband and son, Stanley, two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. J.M. Griffin, San Antonio; Mrs. A.B. Crump, Wheeler; Tom Stanley, Amarillo, and George Stanley, Skellytown; also a number of other relatives and a host of friends who mourn her departure.

Funeral services were conducted from the First Baptist church at Canadian by the pastor, Rev. W.A. Fite, Friday afternoon. The choir sang "In the Garden" and "Does Jesus care." Mrs. W.A. Fite gave a solo, "Sunrise Tomorrow." Pall bearers were Walter Jones, H.S. Wilburn, Otto Yokley, Harrold Miller, L.A. McAdams and Jess Grimes, all of Canadian.

With the Stickley Funeral home of Canadian in charge, interment was made in the Wheeler cemetery at 3:30 p.m.

Friends from Wheeler who attended the Canadian rites were Mesdames Roy Puckett, Ernest Lee, Floyd Pennington, Ethel Ahler, F.N. Reynolds, Minnie Farmer, Cora Hall, Ernest Dyer, Ed Watson, W.O. Puett, Fred Farmer, Jim Hyatt, and Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Holt, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Porter and Dr. F.N. Reynolds. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Bennett and Mrs. Earl Scadden, Sentinel, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Damerell, Waynoka, Okla., and Mrs. Myrtle Mitchell, Wichita, Kans.
