*Obituary James Douglas
J.D. Merriman, 83 years old, long time citizen of Wheeler County, died early this morning at his home in Wheeler. He is survived by seven children, one of whom, a son, John M. Merriman, lives at 1306 Lipscomb.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Wheeler Methodist Church, by the pastor, Rev. Hugh H. Hunt.

Mr. Merriman had been in failing health since last December.

His wife preceded him in death, dying in April last year.

Besides the son who lives here, Mr. Merriman is survived by two other sons, Lt. Wayland Merriman, Calcutta, India, and J.D., Jr., Silver City, N.M.; and by four daughters, Mrs. J.M. Turner and Mrs. Herman Van Sickle, both of Pampa, Mrs. Robert Crisp, Phoenix, Ariz., and Miss Florence Merriman, Washington, D.C.

Funeral services for Mrs. J.D. Merriman, 72, mother of Mrs. J.M. Turner and of Mrs. Herman Van Sickle, both of Pampa, who died at 1 p.m. Friday of a heart attack at her home in Wheeler, will be conducted at 3:30 this afternoon at the Wheeler Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Wheeler cemetery.

Mrs. Merriman had resided in Wheeler county for 40 years. She was for years a member of the Board of Stewards of the Wheeler Methodist church, held a life membership in the Women's Society of Christian Service.

Survivors are the husband, James Douglas Merriman Sr., Wheeler; two daughters, besides the two who reside in Pampa, Mrs. Robert Crisp, Estancia, N.M., and Miss Florence Merriman, Washington, D.C., secretary to Rep. Eugene Worley.

Three sons, J.D. Merriman Jr., Silver City, N.M., who at one time was job shop manager of The Pampa News, and at one time editor of The Panhandle Herald; Lieut. Francis Wayland Merriman, army sanitary corps, Springfield, Mo., and John Merriman, Amarillo.

Other survivors are two brothers, John Dunkle, Alanreed, the Rev. W. F. Dunkle of Jasper, Fla., and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Merriman, whose maiden name was Miss Ida Dunkle, was born May 9, 1871, at Deer Run, W. Va. She was married to Mr. Merriman on June 26, 1896. The couple resided in Texas, first in Dallas County, then at Mobeetie, before moving to Wheeler.
