Funeral Services for Dr. Clyde C. Merritt, 75, will be conducted this afternoon (Thursday) at 2:30 p.m. in the Wheler [sic] Church of Christ. Robert Frahm, local minister, will officiate.
Dr. Merritt was born Feb. 2, 1887, at Davis City, Iowa, and died Monday night in the Shamrock General Hospital. He came to this community from Blevins, Ark. in 1936 and has made his home here since that time with the excepetion [sic] of 30 months, which he spent in Oklahoma City attendin [sic] Carver Chiropractor College.
As a graduate of Western Bible Colege [sic] at Odessa, Mo., Dr. Merritt served as a minister in numerous locations in this area. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Always having an interest in community and civic affairs, Dr. Merritt was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club.
He was married to Ester Hayden on May 5, 1908, at Odessa, Mo.
Dr. Merritt is survived by his wife Ester, one daughter, Mrs. Naomi McClain, Amarillo; two grandchildren: three brothers, R.R. Merritt, Weatherford, Lee Marritt [sic] of Liveoak, Calif., and Don Merritt, a missionary in North Rhodesia, South Africa.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Serving as pallbearers will be Lewis Lancaster, Harold Nash, W.L. Jolly, Bill Owen, Thomas Daughtry and Clyde Johnson.
Interment will be in Wheeler Cemetry [sic] under the direction of Kirk Funeral Home.
