PAMPA - Jack T. Mitchell, 77, died Monday, March 9, 2009, in Amarillo.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ with Glen Walton, minister of Bell Avenue Church of Christ of Amarillo, and Kurt Jones, minister of Ninth & Bliss Church of Christ of Dumas, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Mr. Mitchell was born April 7, 1931, in Goodlett to C.D. and Essie Mae Powell Mitchell. He graduated from Wheeler High School in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.

Jack married Wanda Topper on June 6, 1954, in Wheeler and then moved to Pampa in July of 1955. He was a master machinist, working for Pantex for 18 years, Pupco, Pampa Gear and Machine and Titan Specialties before retiring.

Jack was a member of Central Church of Christ. He loved his Lord and Master and was an elder and teacher for many years.

Jack loved golfing, guns, and taking walks around town and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a lifetime member of the Pampa Rifle & Pistol Club, and was a gunsmith for years.

He was a former volunteer for Pampa Meals on Wheels, and was a foster parent for High Plains Children's Home and Gray County for many years.

Jack was loved by many and will be missed dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Joe, Frank, Vernon, Charlie, W. D. and C. C. Mitchell; and two sisters, Mae Mitchell and Gene Hornsby.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Mitchell; four daughters, Laura Underwood of Little Rock, Ark., Frankie Fletcher of Midland, Molly Carriere of Pearland and Susan Henderson and husband Keenan of Pampa; three sons, Russell Mitchell of Pearland, William Mitchell and wife Nikki of York, S.C., and Jason Mitchell of New York; nine grandchildren, Clifton "Bud" Fletcher, Krishna Henderson and Koltan Henderson, all of Pampa, Ann Fritz, Carissa Mitchell and Jacob Carriere, all of Pearland, Thomas Fletcher of Midland, Robert Underwood of Tulsa, Okla., Brittny Mitchell of Amarillo; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Meadows and husband Sam of Briscoe; a son-in-law, Clifton Fletcher of Amarillo; and many nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home, 11461 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79118; or The Bridge, 804 Quail Creek Drive, Amarillo, TX 79124.
