WHEELER - J.M. "Jim" Montgomery, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alberta Helton, pastor of Wheeler Community Church, and the Rev. Ricky Carstensen, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Mr. Montgomery was born May 15, 1923, in Hall County to S.L. and Edith F. Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery married Melba L. Wiley on Oct. 16, 1947, in Wheeler. She died in 1998. He was a lifetime resident of Wheeler and was manager of High Plains-Wheeler Gas Companies. Mr. Montgomery was employed for 37 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Wheeler Masonic Lodge, where he was past master four times, and district deputy grand master in 1977. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, El Paso, and was active in Prison Ministries.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Montgomery and wife, Suzie, of Pampa and Sam Montgomery and wife, Karen, of Stephenville; a daughter, Lou Hubbard and husband, Bob, of Amarillo; two brothers, Leslie Montgomery of Abernathy and Don Montgomery of Mattawamkeag, Maine; seven grandchildren, Lesley Montgomery, Michael Montgomery, Mark Montgomery, Jeremy Montgomery, Amanda King, Christy Sperry and Shane Hubbard; and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church Special Fund or First United Methodist Library in Wheeler.
