WHEELER - Thomas William "Bill" Owen, 88, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Wheeler Cemetery with Bill Morrison, minister of Wheeler Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Mr. Owen was born in Wheeler and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Wheeler High School. He retired in 1971 after 31 years as owner of Wheeler Texaco Station. He retired in 1990 from the city of Wheeler.

Mr. Owen served as mayor pro-tem for several years. He also served on the Wheeler Independent School District board of trustees for 12 years and on the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission.

Mr. Owen was named Man of the Year in 1979 by the Wheeler Chamber of Commerce and awarded the Pioneer Spirit Award in 1997 by the Chamber. He was a charter member of the Wheeler Kiwanis Club and a member of the Wheeler Masonic Lodge, Wheeler Chamber of Commerce and Wheeler Church of Christ.

He married Doraeen Vic Wood in 1935 at Texoma.

Survivors include his wife of Amarillo; two sons, Burley Owen of Amarillo and Ray Owen of Lubbock; a daughter, Billie Jones of McKinney; two brothers, Luke Owen of Corpus Christi and Albert Owen of Farmington, N.M.; a sister, Letha Krhut of Wa Keeney, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be to Alzheimer's Association, 2200 W. Seventh, Amarillo, Texas, 79106.

WHEELER - Doraeen Owen, 83, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Wheeler Cemetery with Bill Morrison, minister of the Wheeler Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Mrs. Owen was born in Texhoma, Okla., and moved to Wheeler in 1933. She graduated from Wheeler High School in 1934. A homemaker, she was a member of the Wednesday Study Club, Wheeler Church of Christ and a volunteer at the Wheeler Care Center.

She married T.W. "Bill" Owen in 1935 at Wheeler. He died in May.

Survivors include a daughter, Billie Jones of McKinney; two sons, Burley Owen of Amarillo and Ray Owen of Round Rock; a brother, Tom Wood of Buda; nine grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren.
