WHEELER - Jim Porter, 67, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, in Dallas.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Woodward officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Jim was born May 7, 1940, in Wheeler to Glen Robert and Madge Glass Porter. He was raised on the Porter Ranch and lived in Wheeler County all his life. He attended Mobeetie and Wheeler schools and graduated from Wheeler High School. He also graduated from Panhandle State College in Goodwell, Okla., in 1964.

He married Shari Gale Lee on Aug. 12, 1962. He retired from Arkla Gas Co. in 1995, and was involved in ranching in Wheeler County all his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, "Dunk" Porter; and a sister, Glenda Porter.

Survivors include his wife, Shari; two sons, Jamie Porter and wife Ann of Wheeler and Manson Porter of San Antonio; and two grandchildren, Jared Messer and Ryan Porter, both of Wheeler.

The family suggests memorials be to the Cancer Society Relay for Life or a favorite charity.

WHEELER - Shari Gale Porter, 68, died Monday, June 16, 2008, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thacker Haynes, pastor of First United Methodist Church in McLean, officiating and the Rev. Tom Carter, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Wheeler, assisting. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Mrs. Porter was born Sept. 19, 1939, in Wheeler to Lonnie and Lillian Lee. She graduated from Wheeler High School in 1958 and also graduated from North Texas State University.

Shari taught in McLean High School for several years. She also worked for First National Bank in Wheeler as vice president for 25 years before retiring. Later, she worked for Norwest Bank in Roswell, N.M.

Shari was the founding organizer of Relay for Life in Wheeler County. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jim, in July 2007.

Survivors include two sons, Jamie and wife Ann Porter of Wheeler and Manson Porter of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Jared Messer and Ryan Porter, both of Wheeler; and a sister, Lonnelle and husband Arden Kenady of Amarillo.

The family suggests memorials be to Relay for Life, American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718; or First United Methodist Church, 601 S. Main St., Wheeler, TX 79096.
