J.H. Richards Services Held Here Monday
Funeral services for James Hill Richards long time resident of this community were conducted Monday, April 29 at 2:30 p.m at the First Baptist Church with Rev. M.B. Smith of Pampa and Rev. Frank Ross officiating.
James Hill Richards was born Dec. 5, 1876 in White County, Ark., and passed away at Wellington, April 27 at the age of 86 years, four months and 22 days.
He was married to Lena Hutchinson at Clarksville on Sept. 3, 1899 and moved to Wheeler area in 1921 from Denton County.
A farmer during his active life, he had been in ill health for the past eight years. He had resided in Wheeler since 1955 until the past few weeks when he had been in a nursing home in Wellington.
Mr. Richards was a member of the Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Richards are the wife, Mrs. Lena Richards; four daughter, Mrs. Ethel Herd, Mrs. Irene Dyer and Mrs. Louise Gaines all of Wheeler and Mrs. Lila Maude Esslinger of Roswell, N.M.; two brothers, P.V. Stewart and H.W. Stewart of Borger; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Serving as pall bearers were James Gaines, Richard Gaines, C.B. Brotherton, Jr., Bill Hampton, Doc Perkins and Harry Fields.
Names as honorary bearers were C.C. Robison, Levi Reid, E.E. Wilsford, Virgil Helton, H.D. ields [sic] and dRay McClain.
Interment was in the Wheeler Cemetery under the direction of Kirk Funeral Home.
