*Obituary George C.
G.C. Roden, Wheeler county pioneer, died Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.R. Carver at Shamrock. He had been ill since August but not serious until recently.

George Carroll Roden was born Dec. 9, 1854, in Marshall county, Ala., and died Dec. 3, 1934, in Shamrock, Texas, being 79 years, 11 months and 23 days old. He would have been 80 years old had he lived until his birthday.

He married Miss Josephine Moore on Sept. 25, 1879. To this union eight children were born, all of whom are living except two, who died in infancy. After spending two years in Indian Territory (Oklahoma) the family moved to Texas in 1894.

He was converted 36 years ago and has lived a devoted christian life. He was a kind and loving husband and father and always glad to help those in need.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife and six children, Mrs. J.R. Carver, Mrs. Ira Rippy, Mrs. H.J. White, Elmore Roden, Josephine Roden and Mrs. J.D. Cook. And 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; also other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist church in Wheeler by Rev. A.C. Wood, assisted by Rev. Alamo Starkey and Rev. E.T. Smith, Wednesday afternoon with burial in the Wheeler cemetery.
