WELLINGTON - Vera Myrtle McNeill Rogers, 85, died Monday, May 22, 2006.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church of Wellington with the Rev. Monte Kreis, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Canadian, officiating and the Rev. Charles Addington, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Wellington, and the Rev. Vanya Neeley, pastor of Abundant Life Fellowship in Wellington, assisting. Graveside services will be in Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rogers was born in Elmore City, Okla., to W.F. and Nellie McNeill. Her parents moved to the Texas Panhandle when she was 3 years old.

She started to school at Houselog and also attended Nickelson and Ramsdell schools in Collingsworth County. Later, she attended Wheeler and Briscoe schools in Wheeler County, graduating from Briscoe in 1938.

Mrs. Rogers was a graduate of Northwest Texas School of Nursing in 1942. She was in the Army and Air Force Nursing Corps from 1942 to 1945.

Vera married Joe D. Rogers of Tulia in 1942. He died in 1998. She was also preceded in death by a son, Neil Weston Rogers in 1979.

Mrs. Rogers was a school nurse for North Wheeler County Schools for 11 years. She worked as an office nurse for Dr. L.C. Barbour for 22 years, retiring in 1988. She lived in Wheeler for 50 years.

In October 1998, Vera moved to Wellington, where she was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lidia Group of First United Methodist Church and her beloved art class.

Survivors include twin sons, Dean Rogers of St. Paul, Minn., and Dale Rogers and wife Kari of Weatherford, Okla.; a daughter, Jo Rita Henard and husband Jim of Wellington; 11 grandchildren, Tammie Joe and Jamie Whitehead, Tanya Rogers, Stacy and Eddie Bishop, Tracy and David Mattox, David and Dani Rogers, Challis and Vanessa Rogers, Kale and Jana Rogers, Kyle Rogers, Sandy and J.T. Hodges, Tammie and Mark Goldston and Tal and Jennifer Henard; 10 great-grandchildren, Rachel McNeill Morrison, Kori Beth Whitehead, Kelton Mattox, Eli Todd Bishop, Ryleigh Mattox, Cristin Whitehead, Kray Rogers, Ashton Rogers, Dayci Rogers and Colton Hodges; an adopted-by-love daughter, Machille Henson of Wheeler; an adopted-by-love son, Anthony Smallwood of St. Paul; many cherished friends of Wellington; and finally, but certainly not least, her loved and devoted caretakers and their families, Margaret Murdock, Beverly Turrentine, Teresa Valles, Gloria Armstrong, Irma Arreola and Selma Villalon.

The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church of Wellington or the Wellington Ambulance Service.
