Services for Joann Beth Simmons, 85, are scheduled for Friday, June 23, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Cornerstone Church, Wheeler, TX with Pastor Erron Mercer, Pastor Matt Johnson and Rev. Bill Stiles, officiating. Burial will follow in the Wheeler Cemetery under the direction of Peppers Family Funeral Home of Wheeler, TX.
JoAnn passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 in Amarillo, TX.
Joann Beth Simmons was born on December 14, 1931 in Hollis OK, to the late Louie Abernethy and Verna (Gammon) Abernethy. She was a graduate of Kelton High School Class of 1948. Mrs. Simmons married James Virgil Simmons on August 11, 1950 in Bethesda, Maryland. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2005.
Joann attended the Cornerstone Church.
Joann was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Jerry Abernathy; three sisters, Kathrine Calcote, Phyllis Shelton, and Currie Dell Bliss; one son, Louie Simmons.
Joann is survived by three sons, Steve Simmons and wife Lynda, of Iowa Park, TX, Weldon Simmons and wife Dolores, of Wheeler, TX and Walter Simmons and wife Phyllis, of Amarillo, TX; one daughter, Deleise Atwood and husband Riley, of Wheeler, TX; seven grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild; four sisters, Barbara Vines of Prosper, TX, Aliene Mills of Eric, OK, Vernell Thomas of Longview, TX, and Cherry Hall of McLean, TX, one brother-in-law Darvin Bliss and wife Carol, of Fritch, TX; one daughter-in-law Carla Simmons of Lebanon, TN; two sister-in-laws Elwanda Gille of Littleton, CO and Linda Abernathy of Evant, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her constant companion BJ her beloved dog.
The family suggests donations be made to charity of choice.
