WHEELER - Amelia Ann Green Sims, 92, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, in Arlington.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ernie McGaughey of Tulia officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler.

Amelia was born in Dalhart on May 7, 1918, and grew up on her parents ranch between Dalhart and Stratford. She married Lyndon H. Sims on Nov. 15, 1936, and he preceded her in death in 1988.

She moved with her family to Wheeler County in November 1945 and remained there until moving to Arlington in 1999.

During her life in Wheeler, she was a music teacher in the schools and as a private teacher of piano and organ. Amelia was the organist for Wheeler United Methodist Church for 46 years, and played thousands of services and hundreds of weddings and funerals. She was a loyal supporter of the church, school and community, having served on the administrative board of the church and as a leader of the local and area United Methodist Women's groups.

Amelia served as a state vice president of the Texas Cattle Women, as well as other Top O' Texas and state positions. She started the Wheeler Meals on Wheels program and assisted in the start of the Shamrock Meals on Wheels program. The Wheeler Chamber of Commerce honored Amelia as woman of the year in 1990.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Joyce Haddox of Austin; a son, Dean Sims of Lubbock; a brother, Keith Green of Dalhart; and a sister, Bonnie Green of Dalhart.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn K. Jolly and husband Jim of Arlington; a son, M. Kent Sims and wife Trish of Flower Mound; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be to Wheeler United Methodist Church, 704 S. Main St., Wheeler, TX 79096.
