Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the Baptist church in Twitty for Mrs. Mattie Cora Stapp, who died at her home Sunday morning following an illness of one month.

Mrs. Stapp was born May 13, 1877, in Georgia and died April 25, 1938, at Twitty, Texas, at the age of 60 years, 11 months and 12 days. She was the wife of the late Virgil Stapp, who passed away April 3, 1935, and to whom she was married on June 21, 1895, at Belton, Texas.

To this union were born six children, four sons and two daughters: James Albert Stapp, Canton, Texas; Claude Stapp, Twitty; Wesley Stapp, Plainview; William Stapp, Twitty, and Mrs. B.C. Kuykendall, Blair, Okla., and Gladys Stapp, Twitty. They are all living.

Other surviving relatives include her father, D.L. Elliott of Wheeler; one sister, Mrs. A.H. Alston of Stamford, a brother, Ernest Elliott of Plainview, and a number of Nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Claude, William and Gladys Stapp were present at the time of her death.

Mrs. Stapp was a well-known resident of Twitty, where she had made her home for the past six years. Previously she lived at Kelton four years and in East Texas. Though in ill helth for the past year, she had just returned home from the hospital and prospects for recovery appeared favorable.

Hester Dodson was song leader at the last rites. Pall beaerers were Melvin Braxton, J.M. Tindall, L.L. See, M.E. Gierhart, Tom Montgomery and J.F. Shadden. Flower bearers were Mrs. J.M. Tindall and Mrs. J.A. Welch.

Interment was made in the Wheeler cemetery under direction of the Clay-Youngblood Funeral home of Shamrock.
