Services Held For J.D. Swan

Funeral services for Joseph Dewitt Swan, 72, who was killed in an accident 20 miles north east of San Angelo at 11:30 a.m. Monday. Rites were conducted at 2:30 p.m. in the Wheeler Methodist Church.

Mr. Swan was involved in a auto collision and was pronounced "Dead on Arrival" at a San Angelo Hospital. His body was taken to Massie Funeral Home and was picked up by a Kirk Ambulance Coach and returned to Wheeler. Burial was in Wheeler Cemetery beside his wife who passed away December 4, 1953.

Mr. Swan was born in Bell County June 21, 1884. He had lived in this community for 24 years and was on his way to visit friends in San Angelo at the time of the accident.

Rev. Carlton Thomson was in charge of the last rites. Kirk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Buster Black, Leo Lamb, J.R. Clark, Spud Moore, Shorty Sechrist, and Nick Steadman.

Survivors include; The children, Mrs. Wanda Dickerson [sic], Borger; Mrs. Shirley Parr, Medford, Ore.; Mrs. Bobbie Rue Frizen, Longview, Wash.; Joe W. Swan, Klamath Falls, Ore.; and Jim Swan, Borger.

Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Powell and Mrs. Olinger, Oak Cliff, Dallas; and Mrs. E.V. Cadle, Martinez, Calif., and a brother, L.P. Swan of Long Beach, Calif.

Mrs. Mayme Swan, 66, died this morning at 5 o'clock in the North Plains hospital.

A resident of Wheeler, Tex., she was the mother of Mrs. Wanda Dickenson, R.N., of Borger. Other survivors include her husband, J.D. Swan; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Parr of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Miss Bobbie Swan of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Jim of Borger and Joe of Klamath Falls; four sisters, one brother, and seven grandchildren.

The body will be taken to Wheeler for final rites and internment.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mayme Swan, 66, who died early Friday morning at North Plains Hospital will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Methodist Church of Wheeler. Interment will be in the Wheeler Cemetery.

Mrs. Swan is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Wanda Dickenson and a son, James Swan both of Borger.
