Gynell Reed Thompson December 7, 1930 –July 8, 2018
Gynell was born on December 7, 1930 in Wheeler Texas to Domer and Iceal Reed. She grew up on the family ranch where she enjoyed working with the horses and cattle. She attended Allison High School. Upon graduation, she attended West Texas State University where she met the love of her life, Leslie Verdain Thompson. They married on April 26, 1949 and a year later they were blessed with a son, Rondall Thompson. Gynell and Leslie Verdain lived a full life together traveling, working, and raising a family until his death in April 17, 1990. Gynell settled into her life in Huntsville, Texas surrounded by family, friends, and her animals. She became active in the community in areas that included Calvary Baptist Church, the Walker County Fair Association, Bridge Club, Calvary Baptist Quilting Club, Huntsville Memorial Hospital, and Huntsville High School. She was supportive of the various clubs and interests that her grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved in. On July 8, 2018, she stepped out of the world and into the arms of Jesus and her beloved Leslie Verdain once again. Gynell is preceded in death by her husband Leslie Verdain Thompson, Domer and Iceal Reed, sister Odene Rasco, Niece Sherlyn Case, and brother-in-law Billy Burress. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ron and Angie Thompson, brother and sister-in-law Densel and Fern Reed, sister Ula Burress, grandchildren: Jason and Deneane Thompson, Joeline Bryant, Allison and Blayne Wakefield, and Lauren Gehovak. Numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and many friends who she considered family. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Ronald McDonald House, a charity that was dear to Gynell and her family. Donations can be made at Support.rmhc.org.
Service will be held on July 17, 2018 10:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church Huntsville.
