George C. Warren, 97, a former longtime Wheeler resident died Monday, Sept. 19, 1994, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with Jack Hays of Wheeler and Herman Topper of Borger officiating. Burial will be in the Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Mr. Warren was born in Comanche County and moved to Wheeler in 1923. He married Pearl Hensley in 1916 at Colmer, N.M. She died in 1932. He married Nancy Topper in 1948. She died in 1989. He had been a carpenter and builder and also had managed a lumber yard in Wheeler.

Mr. Warren served as secretary and treasurer of the Wheeler Cemetery Association for many years. He was a Baptist. He moved to Amarillo three years ago. He also was preceded in death by a son, Aubrey Warren.

Survivors include six daughters, Gladys Custer, Coraline Cain, Ellen Jones, all of Amarillo, Betty Jackson of Pampa, Verta Morris of Long Beach, Calif., and Georgia Brummer of Garden Grove, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Mary Ann Maxwell of Wheeler, Wanda Mitchell of Pampa and Katie Finsterwald of Mobeetie; a stepson, Herman Topper of Borger; a sister, Mary Frances Forsyth of Kingfisher, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be to the Wheeler Cemetery Association.
