Doyce R. Watson, 74, passed away Monday, March 21st at Regency Hospital after a long illness.

Doyce was born October 25, 1936, in Nocona, Texas to Lucky Mitchell and Mildred Irene Watson.

He attended schools in Wheeler, Texas, graduating in 1956. He married Laura Lancaster on August 30th, 1958.

Doyce worked for Cabot Corp and Harnischfeger Corp in Pampa, Texas until 1979 at which time he moved his family to Odessa to work for Frontier Crane.

He later went to work for Permian Tractor sales in 1990 where he worked upon his death.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Watson of Odessa; two daughters, Kym Wallace of Fort Worth and Deidre Watson of Austin; five grandkids, Brooklyn Arias and husband Ruben Arias of Odessa, Mitchell Davis and wife Molly of Austin, Tyler Wallace of Odessa, Amelia and Aubrey Wallace of Mansfield; 2 great-grandkids, Iason and Isaiah; 9 brothers and sisters, JoAnn and husband Carrol Lackey; Marshall Watson and wife Colleen; Leon Watson and wife Alicia; Donna and husband Clive Huggins; Gene Watson and wife Shelia; Cheryl McKinley; Carroll Watson and wife Karen; Ricky Watson and wife Sharon; Dwight Watson and wife Becky; and a half-sister Janette Southerland and husband Raymond.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Phillip Watson and Ronnie Steven Watson; a half-brother Daulphus Watson; and a half-sister Pauline Phiffer.

Doyce was an active member of the Highland United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of staff parish committee for 3 years and as chairman for 1 year.

He was chairman of the trustees for 5 years.

He was a member of the Hamilton Sunday School class.

He was active in the Odessa Downtown Lions Club, where he was Director from 2002 to 2003.

He was presented with the Jack Wiech Fellow award for dedicated service to the Children of the Texas Lions Camp in May 2010 and the Outstanding Spirit Award for Inspiration, Courage, and Dedication to the Mission of the Odessa Downtown Lions in 2008-2009.

Doyce will lie in state at Highland United Methodist Church from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Highland United Methodist Church with Rev. David Weyant officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler with the Rev. Tom Carter officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that a memorial in Doyce Watson's name be sent to the National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado.

National Jewish is a world-renowned hospital for the treatment of lung diseases.

It was because of their loving compassionate care, Doyce was given an additional 4 years of quality life.
