WHEELER - Gordon Wayne Whitener, 92, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, in Canadian.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Toby Henson, pastor, William Arthur Whitener, his son, and Nancy Miller, his daughter, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Mr. Whitener married Bennie May Williams on June 10, 1934, in Wheeler. She died in 1999. He was a farmer and a cattle raiser.

Survivors include a son, William Arthur Whitener of Valdosta, Ga.; a daughter, Nancy Miller of Wheeler; two brothers, Hiram Whitener of Wheeler and Herbert Whitener of Tyler; a sister, Louise Plowman of Garland; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to C.E.F. of West Texas, 1500 Travis St., Amarillo, TX 79102; First Baptist Church in Wheeler; or Abraham Memorial Home of Canadian.

WHEELER - Bennie May Whitener, 88, died Saturday, April 3, 1999.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 Tuesday in Wheeler Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Country Chapel Church with the Rev. Delmas Jones of Hope, Ark., officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Mrs. Whitener was born in Wheeler and graduated from Wheeler High School in 1926, and from West Texas State Teachers College in 1930. She moved to Lubbock and returned to Wheeler in 1994. She was a homemaker and taught at various levels in the Wheeler school system. She also taught a young married couples Sunday school class at First Baptist Church, and was a member of the Country Chapel.

She married Gordon Wayne Whitener in 1934 at Wheeler.

Survivors include her husband; a son, William Whitener of Valdosta, Ga; a daughter, Nancy Miller of Wheeler; a sister, Ruby Lee Sandifer of Abilene; a brother, Glenn Williams of Wheeler; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to the Child Evangelism Fellowship of Amarillo, 2410 West 7th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79106.
