Funeral Services For Walter Lonnie Williams

Walter Lonnie Williams, 81, died Thursday, October 20, 1988.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 22 in First Baptist Church. Rev. M..B. Smith, retired Pampa Baptist minister, and the Rev. Robert Helsley, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Mr. Williams was born in Runnels County. He married Lona Pruitt in 1932 at Merkel. They moved to Pampa in 1937 and to Briscoe in 1948, where he was a farmer and rancher. They moved to Wheeler in 1954, where he owned an exterminating business for 20 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include is wife; three sons, W.L. Williams of Pampa, James Williams of Wheeler and Huey Williams of Lovington, N.M.; three brothers, J.U. of Blackwell, Okla., Bill Williams of Long Beach, Calif., and Olan Williams of Brownwood; three sisters, Ida Cody of Central Valley, Calif., Oleta Johnson of North Fork, Calif. and Mrs. W.E. Lehr of Mansfield, Okla.; seven grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Pallbearers were Glen Gaines, Bill Hampton, Larry Hampton, Thomas Helton, Melvin May, Gary Miller, Wesley Steen, Steve Walker.

Honorary Pallbearers were Percy Farmer, Doyle Grimes, Tom Helton, Travis Keelin, Ed Riley, Shorty Sechrist.

WHEELER - Lona Mae Williams, 93, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, in Merkel.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Wheeler Cemetery with Dr. Toby Henson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Mrs. Williams was born Nov. 22, 1908, to Ottie Dumas and America Pruitt in Putnam. She married Walter Lonnie Williams Sr., on Dec. 13, 1932, in Merkel. The marriage ceremony was performed by her father O.D. Pruitt.

In Pampa she was a homemaker during World War II, where her husband worked at the Pampa Air Force Base. From 1949 to 1954, the family operated a dairy farm near Briscoe. Wheeler was home from 1954 where she was a longtime employee of the ASCS office.

An active member of First Baptist Church and the Old Mobeetie Association, she enjoyed the fellowship of members, family and friends. Gardening and flowers were hobbies she thoroughly enjoyed.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; a son, W.L. "Dub" Williams Jr. in 1989; and a brother, B.L. Pruitt of Fort Davis.

Survivors include two sons, James Williams of Wheeler and Huey Williams of Lovington, N.M.; four sisters, Ethel Snell and Mrs. John Boyd, both of Merkel, Etta Martin of Springdale, Ark., and Nell Weisbach of Beaumont; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Wheeler.
