Hundreds of friends attended the funeral rites held at Wheeler Monday afternoon for C.N. (Nat) Wofford, pioneer Wheeler merchant, whose death early Sunday was a shock to this entire county.

The funeral services were in charge of Rev. A.C. Wood, long time friend of Wofford, Rev. E.D. ??? of the Wheeler Methodist Church and Rev. E.T. Smith, pastor of the Shamrock Baptist church, officiating. Burial was made in the Wheeler cemetery.

Wofford was found dead in the bathroom of his home by members of the family when they heard the sound of a pistol. One shot from a pistol in his hands had penetrated the jugular vein, causing instant death.

In failing health for the past few months, Wofford had not been himself, since a recent serious attack of ???, said members of his family. He had appeared worried and troubled. Arising early Sunday morning, he told Mrs. Wofford he would light the fires, later going into the bathroom. The report of a shot was heard and he was dead before members of the family could reach him.

Wofford had resided at Wheeler 30 years and was a friend to hundreds of people all over the county. He was owner of the Wofford Dry Goods store at Wheeler, and also had stores at Briscoe and Pritchett, Colo.

Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Reba, of Wheeler, four sons, Deward of Pritchett, Color., Clinton of Briscoe, and Earl and John, both of Wheeler. Two brothers, Frank and W.B. Wofford both make their homes in Shamrock and there also are two other brothers, Horace of Amarillo and Leonard of Stigler, Okla., and three sisters, Mrs. J.D. Jett of Dallas, Mrs. Dan Hanson of New Mexico, and Mrs. Harl Etter of Shamrock.
