Rosary for Sylvia Meurer, 92, of Slaton will be 7 p.m. today, Sunday, July 20, 2008 in Englunds Chapel with the Deacon Darris Linder of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating.

Resurrection Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 in St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Nicholas Rendon officiating. Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery of Slaton under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service.

She died on Saturday, July 19, 2008 in Slaton.

She was born on June 19, 1916 in Victoria, Tx., to Charles William and Erna Anna Mueller Buxkemper.

In the fall of 1922 the Buxkemper family moved to Slaton where she attended school. She married Paul Meurer on September 27, 1938. They farmed cotton and raised their family in the Slaton area. Paul died November 24, 2000. Two children, Charles and Catherine, preceded her in death.

Sylvia was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and had been active in the Catholic Daughters and the Alter Society and past member of the Town and Country Dance Club.

Those she is leaving behind include her sons, Lee Meurer and wife Judy; Edward Meurer and wife Brenda, all from Slaton; and daughters, Vernell and husband Buddy Kaatz; and Nadine and husband Carroll McDonald, all from Lubbock; sister, Esther Strube; and brother, Paul Buxkemper, both from Slaton; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many other family members and friends. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
