WHEELER - Thurman Wayne Calcote, 73, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Cottie Tarbet of Shamrock and Max McLendon, minister of Church of Christ in Shamrock, officiating. Burial will be in Kelton Cemetery in Kelton by Wright Funeral Home.

Thurman Wayne Calcote was born Aug. 20, 1935, in Kelton to James and Goldie Vee Calcote. Thurman married Linda Garner on Dec. 10, 1964, in Wellington. Thurman graduated from Kelton High School in 1953. He lived his whole life in Wheeler County, where he was a farmer and rancher.

Thurman was a member of American Legion Deshazo George Post No. 68 and a member of the Kelton school board. Thurman also served his country in the U.S. Army

He was preceded in death by his father, James Calcote, in 1967; his mother, Goldie, in 1992; two brothers, J.V and Bobby Calcote; and two sisters, Doretta Moore and Wanda Sailor.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Calcote of Kelton; a son, Paul Calcote of Kelton; two daughters, Tammy Jo Sparks of Walker, La., and Leslie Shaw of Lubbock; two sisters, Odessa Mooney of Wheeler and Oleta Ellis of New Braunfels; a brother, Odis Calcote of McLean; nine grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be to American Cancer Society, 3915 S. Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109; or Kelton Fire Department.
