Robert “B o b” Bracy III
1942-2001
Robert “Bob" Bracy III was born on February 4, 1942 in Colorado City,
Texas. He was the second of two children born to the Reverend Robert
Bracy Jr. and Mary Edwards.

After completing high school in Colorado City in 1958, he went to New
Mexico State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in
1963 Bob was drafted into the army and served faithfully until 1966, after which
he moved to Washington, D C and began teaching science at Hart Junior High
School (1966-1973) While teaching at Hart Junior High School, he pursued and
received a Master of Education degree From 1973-1980, he became the principal
of Powell Elementary School in 1980 and served for one year, where upon he was
appointed as principal of Thomson Elementary School and served until his
untimely passing on May 25, 2001 Bob provided the management and leadership
for Thomson with distinction and pride.
Throughout his illustrious career. Bob received numerous professional honors
and civic and community awards. They include the District of Columbia Public
School Service Award and Officer Incentive Award (1988), the DCPS Service
Award in 1991 and 1996, Washington Post Finalist for Administrator of the year
for 1996-1997, the National Distinguished Principal for 1997-1998, the Parent Teacher Association Service Award, the Lions Club Civic Award, the Teacher for
America Appreciation Award, and the Downtown Clusters Geriatric Center
Appreciation Award, to name a few.
Bob’s affiliations and offices held included Treasurer, District of Columbia
Association of Elementary School Principals, member National Association of
Elementary School Principals (1966-present), member Phi Delta Kappa (1983 to
present), board member of the National Board Teacher Society, and member of
the recruitment team for D C public school.
Bob leaves to mourn his only daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Bracy Taylor and
Raymond Taylor III; one grandson, Raymond Taylor V, his mother and father,
Mary Johnson and Reverend Robert Bracy Jr., both from Colorado City, Texas;
sisters, Mary Smith (Lawrence) of Colorado City, Sandra Green (Floyd) of Big
Spring, Lanetta King (Arthur) of Houston, Regina Selman (Alvin) of Snyder, two
brothers, Jesse Bracy (Carmen) of Keypot, Washington, Stanley Bracy (Sue Ann)
of California, several nieces and nephews, former wife Joyce T Bracy, faithful
friend Emma Best, and a host of other friends
