Ethel Idalia (Nobles) Blackwelder died Tuesday, May 2, 2006. She was 99 years old.
Born January 17, 1907, in Killeen, Ethel was the second of six children born to the union of Hiram Griffin Nobles and Katherine Delula Wiggins Nobles.
Ethel and James Ross Blackwelder were united in marriage January 15, 1922 in Oglesby. They made their home in Albany before moving to Sanderson in 1926.
A homemaker, Ethel helped her husband in his shoe shop until he passed away in 1948 and was also a waitress.
Ethel loved attending church. She received her 50 plus pin for faithful attendance from the First Methodist Church in Sanderson. She loved Sanderson and its people, especially the "little ones" as she called them. She was known as Granny Blackwelder to most of the baby boomers.
When she became a resident of the Fort Stockton Nursing Home in 1999, she was always so happy to see someone from Sanderson that stopped in to visit.
Her husband, five siblings and her four children, James L. Blackwelder, Weldon "Scooter" Blackwelder Marilyn Sechrest and Ora Mae Boyd preceded her in death.
She is survived by: her daughters-in-law, Gloria Blackwelder, Fort Stockton, and Janie Blackwelder, San Angelo; six grandchildren, Sharon Ann Stapp and her husband, Dean, and Phillip Blackwelder all of Fort Stockton, Weldon Ross Blackwelder, Bakersfield, Ora Dee Lockeridge and her husband Don, state of Florida, Cathy Langley, state of Nevada, and Buddy Lee Blackwelder, Virgin Islands.
Nine great-grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service will be at a later date. Cremation has been requested.
Interment will be at the Cedar Grove Cemetery, in Sanderson.
The Family requests that memorials by made in the Terrell County Public Library in lieu of flowers.
