September 17, 1922 - January 4, 2019
Funeral services for Ruby Lea Bowman, 96, of Lamesa will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Branon Funeral Home Chapel with Ben Phipps officiating. Interment will follow in Dawson County Cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Monday, January 7, 2019 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home. Ruby passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 in Lamesa.
She was born September 17, 1922 in Howard County to Alva Ola "A.O." and Verna Gladys (Shipley) Read. She married Ernest Bowman December 2, 1945. He preceded her in death November 25, 1994. They were married 48 years. Ruby was an active member at Second Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also taught school in Ackerly. Ruby loved to write letters to correspond with her family, friends, and missionaries. She enjoyed cooking for her grandchildren and each of them had their favorite birthday cake that she baked for them.
She is survived by her children, Earl Bowman and Janelise of Lamesa, and Elaine Holman and husband, Jimmy of Hurst; sister, Jean Holley of Lamesa; grandchildren, Shantel Keune and husband, Kevin of Timberon, NM, Beckie Ortiz and husband, Omar of Abilene, Michelle Wilson of Lamesa, Segelle Bryan and husband, Thomas of New Home, Keven Bowman and and wife, Crystal of Mayhill, NM, and Stephanie Buchholz and husband, Matt of Alexandria, VA; 10 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. Ruby is also preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Bryan Holman. The family suggests memorials to a charity of your choice.
