Mrs. Merle Brooks, 91, of Kerrville, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2001, in a Kerrville hospital. Mrs. Brooks, a resident of Kerrville since 1958, was born Feb. 3, 1910, in Anson, Texas, to Jim Thomas and Annie Brown Thomas.

Mrs. Brooks worked as a lab and X-ray technician at Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kerrville, retiring from the VA Hospital in 1976. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Kerrville.

Survivors include a daughter, Alice Anne Coon and husband, Hubert Coon Jr., of San Antonio; two sisters, Annette Jones of Tulsa, Okla., and Jo White Patterson of Washington; one grandchild, Michael Coon; and two great-grandchildren, James and Suzanne Coon.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Danny Coon.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, April 20, at First Baptist Church in Kerrville, with the Rev. David McFadden officiating. Interment will be at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 21, at Lamesa Memorial Park, Lamesa, Texas, with the Rev. Randy Hardman officiating.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
