Mass for Monsignor Peter Theodore Morsch, 96, of Panhandle will be held 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Placido Rodriguez officiating. Wake services will be held 7 p.m. today at the church with the Rev. Lawrence Hemp, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery under direction of Englunds Funeral Service.

He died Thursday, August 12, 1999.

He was born in Alkmaar, Holland, on Sept. 14, 1903. He attended schools in Alkmaar. He attended the minor seminary of St. Vincent in Zundert, Holland, and State University of Fribourg, Switzerland, where he studied philosophy and theology.

He was ordained to the priesthood July 12, 1931, in Fribourg for the Diocese of Amarillo. After coming to the United States in 1931, his assignments have included assistant pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in San Angelo from 1931-34, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rotan, Pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aspermont, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Jayton, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hamlin from 1934-38, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Odessa, administrator of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McCamy from 1938-39, assistant pastor of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Dalhart, chaplain of Loretto Hospital in Dalhart in 1939, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Littlefield, pastor of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church at Pep from 1939-43, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in White Deer from 1943-50, and pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth from 1950-63. While in Nazareth, he was made First Dean of Nazareth with the Texas Panhandle in his mission charge. He was later appointed monsignor. He was pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slaton from 1963-72. He was appointed counselor to the Bishop in 1980. He moved to Panhandle in 1996.
Survivors include a nephew in Holland.
