Funeral services for Geraldine "Jerrie" Nowlin of Slaton will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at First United Methodist Church with Revs. Steve Campbell and Keith Wiseman officiating. Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service.

Jerrie passed from this life Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, surrounded by her family. She was born June 19, 1915, in McCaulley, Texas, and moved to Slaton in the 1920s. She graduated from Slaton High School in 1931 and from Texas Tech University in 1936 with a B.A. degree in English and a minor in Journalism. Jerrie married Jack Nowlin on June 15, 1938, in Slaton. She was an elementary school teacher with Wilson ISD, Rices Crossing, and Slaton ISD, and retired from the Sundown schools in 1977. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Daughters of the Pioneer Study Club, and the Slaton Garden Club. She was an avid antique collector and bridge player, and excelled in flower arranging.

A sister, Ardell Wicker Reasoner, and a brother, Quenton Wicker, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jack; a son, Gregg and wife Lisa of Slaton; a daughter, Vicki Ellison and husband Mike of Ralls; a son, Wicker and wife Monica of Ransom Canyon; five grandchildren, Amy Zepeda and husband Richard of Dallas, Neil Nowlin and wife Wesley of Dallas, Emily Lamb and husband Andrew of Chicago, Eric Ellison of Slaton, and Berkly Nowlin of Ransom Canyon; and three great-grandchildren.
