Husband of Marilyn Jean Pursley Payne
Blanton Derell Payne, 63, of Slaton passed from this life, surround by his family, at his home, Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, after a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 23, 1941 in Slaton. Derell was a lifelong resident of Slaton and attended Slaton schools. He was an independent truck driver and was forced to retire in 1978, because of his health.
Derell married Marilyn Jean Pursley Nov. 27, 1957 in Slaton. He was a member of Southland's Community Church.
Derell is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Slaton; son, Derell Dean Payne of Slaton; daughters, Dorothy Payne, and Carla Hubbard, both of Lubbock, and Derella and Mary Beth Payne, both of Slaton; two stepbrothers, K. Calvin Abare of Slaton, and Arthur Abare of Lubbock; and a sister, Ruby Manley; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at Englunds Chapel with Bill Jernigan officiating. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englun ds Funeral Service of Slaton.
