Services for Wayne E. Polk, 83, of Slaton will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Englunds Chapel with Gene Robinson officiating.

Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

He died Monday, April 29, 2002.

He was born April 4, 1919, in Vaughn, N.M., moved to Slaton in 1924 and attended Slaton schools. He married Juanita Giannobule on May 6, 1946, in Slaton. He worked for Lasater Hoffman Hardware Store for 30 years and retired as Slaton's Precinct 2 clubhouse manager in 1992. He was a member and deacon of First Christian Church.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army's 507th Parachute Infantry. He was decorated with the EAME Campaign Medal with four bronze stars and received a Purple Heart.

He was an organizing member of the Slaton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6721 and a member of the American Legion Post No. 438.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Monte Polk and Mike Genoble.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Ric of Decatur; a daughter, Melody Roberts of Wylie; a brother, Harley "Pat" Patterson of Slaton; a sister, Martha Pettigrew of Brownfield; seven grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services for Juanita "Autry" Polk, 78, of Slaton will be at 2 p.m. today in Englunds Chapel with Elizabeth Abraham officiating.

Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.

She died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002.

She was born Feb. 27, 1924, in Dallas and moved to the Slaton area in 1926. She attended Cooper schools and graduated from Cooper High School in 1942. She married Wayne E. Polk on May 6, 1946, in Slaton. He died April 29, 2002. She had worked at Slaton Rexall Drug and Lasater Hoffman Hardware and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Slaton Ladies Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 6721 and Ladies Auxiliary of Slaton American Legion 438.

She also was preceded in death by two sons, Monte Polk on Oct. 22, 1971, and Mike Giannobule on Feb. 7, 1977.
