Services for J.D. Rackler, 81, of Shallowater will be at 3 p.m. today in Shallowater's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mitch Wilson, pastor, and the Rev. Jerry Joplin officiating.

Burial will be in Slaton's Englewood Cemetery under direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Rackler died Thursday, April 30, 1998, in St. Mary Hospital.

He was born Nov. 12, 1916, in Henrietta. He married Marie Joplin on July 4, 1936, in Slaton. He was a member of Shallowater's First Baptist Church and the Hub City Wheels. He moved to Shallowater from Anton in 1969.

He farmed in Anton and Shallowater for many years. A daughter, Doris Jean Tiller, died in 1995.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, John of San Antonio and Steve of Shallowater; a daughter, Dorothy Howard of Arlington; five brothers, Kenneth of Marlow, Okla., Carl of Shallowater, J.T. of Levelland, L.H. of Portales, N.M., and Odell of Fletcher, Okla.; two sisters, Aline Trammell of Lubbock and Lois Hopper of Wolfforth; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services for Gladys "Marie" Rackler, 89, of Shallowater, will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Shallowater, with Rev. Mitch Wilson, officiating. Burial will follow in Slaton's Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Resthaven.

Marie went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 22, 2008.

Marie was born on July 4, 1918 in Lewisville, to Willie Mark and Mattie Gentry Joplin. She married Dalton "J.D." Rackler on her birthday in July 4, 1936. J.D. passed away in April 1998.

Early in their marriage she was a fulltime mother and farmer's wife. She returned to nursing school in the 60's and worked at St. Mary's and Methodist Hospitals until her retirement.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Shallowater and the Hub City Wheels.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Jean Tiller; three brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Steve and wife, Cindy, of Shal-lowater, John and wife, Margaret, of San Antonio; one daughter, Dorothy Howard, of Arlington; four sisters, Mary Hartgraves, of Lubbock, Pat Trotter, of Amarillo, Laverne Duncan, of Brownfield, and Jan Altman, of Smyer; one brother, Gene Joplin, of Saledo; ten grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
