Leon James Cohorn, a former resident of Lamesa, Texas passed to his eternal life on Thursday, January 14, 2021, while in the care of New Horizon Homes, Dallas, Texas. He was 83.


Leon was born February 6, 1937, in Sinton, Texas to Marshall and Annie Lou (Cline) Cohorn. He is the oldest of five children. He moved to Dawson County as a small child for his father to farm cotton. He attended Union School for the lower grades - graduating from Lamesa High School in 1955. He then attended Hardin Simmons University where he met Millie - marrying in Hereford, Texas, on August 21, 1959. Leon graduated with a BA Degree and entered the U S Army thru the ROTC Program - serving in the Quartermaster Corps. After being honorably discharged from the service, he farmed in Dawson and Gaines counties for 40 years.


Leon and Millie were active members of First Baptist Church of Lamesa. Leon taught a Sunday School Class and served as a deacon. He enjoyed helping with the monthly food distribution from the church Food Bank. After retiring in 2012, and moving to Frisco, Texas, they joined First Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas.


Leon is survived by his wife Millie; their children, Lisa Camille and Charles Feyt of Grand Haven, Michigan and Mark Alan and Tori Cohorn of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Brooks, Blake and Catherine Cohorn; brothers Alvin Cohorn and wife Marsha, and Jack Cohorn.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Gwen Williams and Linda Meek.
