Florence R. Conner
1921-2014

Florence Reaves Conner was born on the 26th of September 1921, and passed away on Tuesday, the 23rd of December 2014, at the age of 93 in Houston.

She was the daughter of a pioneer West Texas Family, raised in Anson and Dallas, Texas. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Thomas E. Conner; her parents A.S. and Ruby Reaves; and her brothers and sisters, Clifton Reaves, Erma Moore, Pearl Annette Taylor, Byron Reaves, Francis Reaves and A. S. "Mike" Reaves. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas R. and Anne G. Conner (who was the daughter she never had); her granddaughter, Emily Reaves Conner and grandson, William Garwood Conner, all of Houston; her niece, Emily Reaves Talley of Coral Gables, Florida; and numerous great nieces and great-nephews.

In 1942, she married her husband, Tom, in Savannah, Georgia. They settled in Lamesa, Texas where they owned and operated the Texaco Bulk Plant and Radio Station KPET. Florence was an extremely talented singer and pianist, and sang with many of the Big Bands of the 40's when they played in Dallas. A lifelong Methodist, she was ever generous with her talent, singing in every choir of every church of which she was a member and also served as a soloist at numerous weddings and funerals. She sang with The Slumtown Symfunny at charity venues throughout West Texas, where she was known as "Star Light, Star Bright." She loved to travel to places like the Far East and Mexico, and took great joy in treating each of her grandchildren to trips to Europe. The highlight of each summer for many years was to coordinate a trip for a group of friends to the Santa Fe Opera.

Florence was one of the kindest, most giving and gentlest persons that The Almighty ever put on this earth. She will be dearly missed, but will live in our hearts forever.

A private memorial service will be held in the chapel of The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, where the Rev. Reagan W. Cocke will officiate.

Florence will be buried at Lamesa Memorial Park in Lamesa, Texas.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to TIRR Foundation, 4605 Post Oak Place Dr, Houston, TX 77027; or the charity of one's choice.
