Funeral services for Christopher Paul Cortez, 27, of Lamesa will be held Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church with Jeremiah Aguayo officiating. Interment will follow in Dawson County Cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Chris passed away Monday, January 9, 2017 in Martin County.

He was born September 13, 1989 in Lamesa to Yolanda Alaniz and Reynaldo Cortez. Chris adored and truly loved his wife and children. He grew up playing football and was known as "Tank". He loved watching his son, Luke play sports and playing outside with his daughter, Hallie. He was a coach for Cal Ripkin baseball league, and Iron Man football league, and coached the Iron Man team twice at AT&T Stadium, formerly Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. Chris hated basketball until his son, Luke started playing and then he enjoyed it. He took great pride in his children. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. He was a teddy bear that always greeted his friends with a big hug. He finally found a job that fulfilled his expectations. He was also an avid Harley rider.

Chris is survived by his wife, KD Clement Cortez of Lamesa; children, Luke Ryan Cortez, and Hallie Grace Cortez of Lamesa; mother, Yolanda Morales and husband Ruben, father, Reynaldo Cortez and wife, Lydia, sister, Christal Florez and husband, Randy; brother, James Whited; brothers-in-law, Toby Clement and wife, Carmen, and Cody Clement and wife, April all of Lamesa; great-grandmother, Teresa Cortez of Seminole; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, and life-long friends.
