Jo Ann Dopson
March 8, 1934 - March 2, 2019
With profound sadness we announce the passing of Jo Ann Dopson, age 84, who died peacefully March 2, 2019, in Lubbock, Texas.
Born in Abilene, Texas March 8, 1934, Jo Ann grew up and lived in Lamesa her entire life. Her fulfilling life was dedicated to raising her children, spoiling her grandchildren and loving her great grandchildren.
Jo Ann was a devout Christian who was called to be bold in the face of uncertainty and trials. Her unwavering faith allowed her to set a shining example of how to stand strong in challenging times. Her servant heart compelled her to comfort family and friends when they needed her. Biblically encouraging, she did more than make positive wishes for people, she invested in their lives. Throughout her life she routinely helped those around her, often silently and without praise.
Most of all she loved her family. Dedicated to her role as mother, she was fiercely proud of her children and the close relationships they had. She took on the role of grandmother and great grandmother with excitement and deep love. As the matriarch, she had an undeniable desire to preserve family relationships.
She left this earth with happy anticipation of heaven. She will be profoundly missed and forever in our hearts.
Jo Ann was devoted mother to Steve Dopson and wife Nita of Lamesa, Bruce Dopson of Lamesa, Valerie Spott and husband David of Flower Mound; proud Granny to Heather Dopson of Tempe, AZ, Natalie Young and husband Ryan of Lubbock, and Christopher Spott and wife Tiffany of Lewisville; and cherished Great Granny to Brooke Lowrance, Emerson Young, Macey Young and Olivia Spott.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her longtime companion and best friend, Floyd Oliver.
A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church Lamesa, Thursday, March 7, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. with Robert Davis officiating. Private interment will follow in Dawson County Cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.
