Memorial services for Conley Esmond, 99, of Lamesa will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Lamesa with Jim Medley and Gerald Parsons officiating. Private interment will precede the service in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Conley passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 in Lamesa.
He was born March 20, 1915 to Herbert Earl and Lilly Minerva (Stovall) Esmond. Conley married Geneva Spraberry March 9, 1939 in a double wedding ceremony with his cousin J.D. Nix and Cladie Ruth Guinn in Dawson County. They were married 75 years. Conley came to Dawson County in a covered wagon when he was 6 years old. He attended school at Mount Olive then graduated from Lamesa High School. He attended Sul Ross College. He was a life-long farmer in the Midway community. He and Geneva loved traveling, visiting all 50 states and several foreign countries. They especially enjoyed trips with the Dawson County RV Club.
Conley is survived by his wife, Geneva Esmond of Lamesa; 3 daughters, Sandra Berg and husband, Dave of Mt. Holly Springs, Pennsylvania, Linda Smith and husband, Bob of Lamesa, and Elena Brown and husband, Bob of Lamesa; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Edith Hedrick of Richardson; many nieces and nephews; cousins; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Verlon McDaniel, and Jeannie Accadia; and a brother, Kenneth Esmond. The family suggests memorials to a charity of your choice.
