Vassie Stanley Fincher

Vassie Stanley Fincher, 92, of Canyon died Saturday, April 6, 2002.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon with the Rev. David Lowrie, pastor of First Baptist Church of Canyon, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Lamesa Memorial Park.
Mrs. Fincher was born May 1, 1909, in McLean to P.J. and Nancy Weber Stanley. She married Lloyd Glenn Fincher in 1930 and he preceded her in death in 1982.
She received a bachelors degree from Howard Payne University. She taught 32 years in Lamesa area schools, including Lamesa, Union and Klondike before retiring in 1967.
She was active in Women's Missionary Union at the First Baptist Church in Lamesa and the Texas Teacher Retirement Association. She moved to Canyon in 1987. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canyon. The joy of her life was family.
She was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Glenna Faus and husband, Larry, of Sparta, Wis.; a son, Irwin Fincher and wife, Janet, of Canyon; two sisters, Gertrude Allison of Lubbock and Frances Downing of Norwalk, Ohio; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice, 1000 S. Jefferson, Amarillo, TX 79101
