Graveside services for Thomas Fitzgerald, 90, of Lamesa, were held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at 1:30 p.m., at Lamesa Memorial Park with Clifton Igo officiating. Services were under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.

Thomas passed away on Friday, December 24, 2010, in Seminole.

He was born on January 10, 1920, in Johnson County, Texas to Frank and Lenora Kelly Fitzgerald. He married Goldie White on June 17, 1939 in Lamesa. Goldie preceded him in death on July 7, 1998.

Thomas entered the United States Army in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He served on the hospital ship Comfort in the Pacific. Thomas was on one of the first ships to reach Japan after the atomic bomb was dropped. He was a Disabled American Veterans Life Member, a member of the Odd Fellows, and served on the Lamesa Boy Scouts Adult Committee.

Thomas was an excellent cook and was known for his buttermilk pies. He was also an accomplished wood worker. Thomas would often hand craft gifts for his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are his three children, Lenora and husband, Timothy Luke Nelson, of Denver City, Nadine Sellers of McKinney and Ronnie Fitzgerald of Florida; a sister, Virginia McBee of California; and a brother, Joe Fitzgerald of Houston; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Goldie; a son, James Fitzgerald; three sisters, Stella Threadgill, Kathleen Fitzgerald, and Opal Durrett; and three brothers, John, Joe Edmund and Wesley Dugan Fitzgerald.
