Roy was born January 5, 1919, in Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County, Arkansas, to Walter and Fannie Leona (Cameron) Campbell. Roy's father died 21 days following Roy's birth. Roy graduated in 1939 from Wellington High School where he met his wife of 73 years, Leta Roberts Campbell. The couple married July 5, 1941, in Wellington, Texas. His farming north of Wellington was interrupted by WWII and they sold their farm. He served as a US Marine from 1945 - 1946. He went off to boot camp at Paris Island, SC. He was then stationed at Camp Lejune, NC. When he was finished with his training, Roy was sent to radio school at a Naval camp in Great Lakes, MI. Roy was dismissed early from the Marine Corps because he had a family. After the war, the family moved to Hereford and farmed at Summerfield from 1947 - 1962. He was a postman from 1957 - 1978. Roy then began buying and renovating houses fro rent and sale.

The only medication that Roy took was Advil, said Leta. Roy stopped doing maintenance on his rental properties 4 years ago. Roy went to Southwestern State College in San Marcos.

Roy and Leta enjoyed many years of fantastic trips abroad, plus they were in Good Sam Travel Club.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers, 2 sisters and 6 grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Leta of the home; 6 children, Roy Dean and wife B.J. Campbell of Amarillo, Patsy and Don Akin of Tulsa, OK, Jim and Brenda Campbell of Hereford, Pam and Andy Chavez of St. Joseph, MO, Terry and Zallee Campbell of Hooker, OK, Monty and KayDee Campbell of New Bern, NC; 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren.
