Gerald R. Beckham was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for courage and devotion to duty in action in France Oct. 23, 1944, while stationed at a forward observation listening post, he remained during a heavy barrage in order to report the sound of enemy guns, and permit the sound ranging platoon to locate the hostile artillery. During hours of shelling, with his supporting artillery being heavily damaged, he continued to report until the enemy position was located and silenced. The son of Mr. and Mrs. T.G. Beckham, he fought both at Casino and Anzio, participated in the invasion of Southern France, and the forward units of the 7th Army in Germany.

Beckham served in the Army Air Forces and was a member of the Hurst Masonic Lodge.
