Funeral services for J.J. Clayton, age 43, who died at his home on South Main street March 18, were held last Thursday afternoon at the First Baptist church, conducted by Rev. V.M. Cloyd and assisted by Rev. J.M. Fuller.
Interment was made in West Park cemetery. Mr. Clayton was a member of the I.O.O.F., and Odd Fellows were his pallbearers.
Deceased was born in Georgia, November 14, 1887. He was married to Miss Emma Davis, October 11, 1908, to which union five children were born. He is survived by his widow, five children, Mrs. Howard Hershey, Lois, J.C., Nedra and Molive, all of Hereford; two brothers, L.P. Clayton, Apache, Oklahoma, and A.V. Clayton, Quanah.
Mr. Clayton moved to Hereford in 1919, and at one time served as nightwatchman for the city. He had been ill for a few months with cancer of the liver.
