HEREFORD — A.D. "Buddy" Cowley, 96, of Hereford died Tuesday Nov. 1, 2011.

Celebration of life services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hereford Heritage Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 411 E. Sixth St., with the Rev. Kyle Streun, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in West Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hereford Heritage Funeral Home.

Mr. Cowley was born Nov. 10, 1914, in Granite, Okla., to Frank and Monnie Cousins Cowley as the second of five children. He grew up in the Willow, Okla., community. He was in the Army for a short time during World War II, receiving a medical discharge in 1943.

Buddy married Mary Frances Means on Aug. 10, 1943, in Mangum, Okla., and to this union three children were born, Charles, Carolyn and Denis.

Buddy was a lifelong farmer; he began in Oklahoma and moved to Earth in 1949 and to the Hereford area in 1965.

He loved working the soil. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

After retirement, he continued to do his yardwork and grew a garden until he was 90-years-old. He enjoyed fishing and looked forward to a yearly fishing trip to Colorado and visiting with his brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Carolyn in January 1998; a son, Charles in March 2011; two sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife of more than 68 years, Frances; a son, Denis and wife Doris of Perryton; a son-in-law, Jerry Coulter of Saginaw; a daughter-in-law, Paula Cowley of Dumas; 10 grandchildren, Kirah Cowley, Kyle Cowley, Dustin Cowley, Mark Coulter, Courtney Coulter Hill, Katie Cowley, Kiley Cowley, Chris Carlile, Dusty Carlile and R'nae Bontke; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Margaret Carnahan, Carey Black and all caregivers.
